Discover Morioka: My Transformative Semester at Iwate's Heart
The four months spent as an exchange student at Morioka University passed in the blink of an eye. During this time, I met kind professors and warm-hearted friends, immersed myself in daily learning, and truly experienced the unique charm of studying abroad.
The Enchanting Scenery of Morioka
Morioka’s natural beauty is breathtaking. In autumn, the mountainsides transform into a vivid tapestry of red and gold leaves, as if painted by nature itself. Lined with trees adorned in fall colors, the streets felt like a dreamscape. The majestic Mount Iwate showcased nature’s grandeur, while the historic districts' cobblestone paths and traditional architecture whispered tales of bygone eras. These scenes deepened my appreciation for Japan’s harmonious blend of nature and culture.
A Taste of Morioka
Morioka’s famed “Three Great Noodles” lived up to their reputation. My most memorable experience was trying Wanko Soba (bowl-style buckwheat noodles). In a lively restaurant, I watched as delicate bowls of soba were served one after another. The challenge of eating as many bowls as possible became a joyful game, filled with laughter and cheers from friends. Each bite, accompanied by playful banter, remains a treasured memory of my time abroad.
A Heartwarming Birthday Overseas
During my stay, I celebrated my first birthday far from home. Expecting a quiet day, I was instead surprised by my teachers and friends. As candlelight flickered and they sang “Happy Birthday,” warmth and gratitude overwhelmed me. Receiving their heartfelt wishes and gifts, I realized the depth of human connection and cherished this serendipitous bond forged through my exchange journey.
Academic Perseverance
My academic path was not without challenges. The specialized vocabulary in lectures often required extra effort to grasp. Yet, with patient guidance from professors and support from classmates, I steadily overcame obstacles. Each small victory and moment of progress fueled my joy in growth and strengthened my resolve to keep learning.
For me, studying abroad was not just about academic growth but also a precious opportunity to embrace diverse cultures and broaden my horizons. I will cherish this experience, continue exploring new knowledge, and strive to make my overseas journey even more meaningful. I look forward to bringing what I’ve learned back to my home country, paving the way for a brighter future.
